Due to the similarity of terroir between our vineyard and those of our forebears in Burgundy, chardonnay was always going to be one of our focuses, but only if it could be made in the leaner, more structured style of the great French chardonnays. Based on the positive reviews we received for La Comtesse, we decided to add a second chardonnay to our range of a Reserve standard, named Jeannette. Beautiful and clear, 'Jeannette' is a modern take on the classic, cool climate chardonnays produced in France.
Vibrant clear & golden, a full bodied, yet elegant modern French-style cool climate chardonnay with complex aromatics and taste of citrus and stone fruits. A full and complex varietal palate with a creamy mouth feel, fine-grained lengthy tannins, and a long flavoursome finish. Fine French oak hogsheads, both new and old, impart an excellent structure without significant oak intrusion. Blending of six very different barrel outcomes has delivered a highly complex wine. 'Jeannette' pairs well with roasted pork, lamb or beef dishes that capitalise on caramelisation of fats and juices with a sturdy well made jus (or gravy) will sing ‘hallelujah’! Accompany with the sweetness of quality roasted potato and onions and you will be in epicurean heaven. Wonderful with a rich pâté pre-or post-dinner.
'Jeannette' is named for our mother/wife, Janet, whose favourite white variety is chardonnay.
